[2012-05-18] OPERATIONS AT JAMAICA CUSTOMS NORMAL AFTER OCID OPERATIONSOPERATIONS AT JAMAICA CUSTOMS NORMAL AFTER OCID OPERATIONS
Kingston, Jamaica: The Jamaica Customs Department has refuted statements made on the Gleaner’s Website regarding an alleged closure of a section of Customs House this afternoon due to “cashiers staying off the job.”
Subsequent to the operations at Customs House by the Organized Crime Investigation Division (OCID) on May 16, 2012, four customs’ cashiers were detained. As such, customs operations in that area were impacted but not halted. Alternative measures have been put in place to increase the compliment of cashiers in that area and normalcy resulted by mid morning and continued throughout the day.
Jamaica Customs assures the public that they will be afforded the same level of quality service delivery from all areas as they continue to do business with the Department. Investigations are ongoing regarding matters involving the OCID operation.
