Customs seize 12 guns at Adolf Levy Warehouse

The first gun find for 2010 by the Customs Department on Monday, January 11, revealed 12 high powered guns (1.44 Pistol, 2 AK 47, 2 Desert Eagle, 1 Sub Machine Mak 2, 1 Glock 27, 1 Smith and Wesson, 1 9mm Taurus, 1 Ruger P.95, I Sites Spectre, 1 Kelteck), 28 magazines and 720 assorted rounds of ammunition.

The shipment, declared as personal effects (food stuff and clothing), originated in New York, destined to Jamaica, consigned to an importer in Spanish Town, St. Catherine.

When scanned, the cargo had an anomaly, and was referred to the Contraband Enforcement Team (CET). When the importer came to clear the goods, he was apprehended by CET; he was escorted with the goods to the CET Headquarters for further investigation.

In the importer’s presence the shipment was opened and the guns and ammunition were found concealed.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the importer was not the ultimate consignee. An operation was then planned with the Police Trans National Anti Narcotic Unit and Operation King Fish which resulted in two additional arrests along with the consignee. Charges are pending as the Police continues their investigations.
