[2009-12-18] Another gun find by CustomsOn Friday December 18, 2009 the Customs Department made another gun find at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. During a routine examination of cargo that arrived on an inbound flight from Florida, a Customs Officer inspecting a package said to contain used car parts, discovered 3 firearms, 430 rounds of ammunitions and 3 magazines (1 x 9mm Smith and Wesson Pistol S/N A252011, 1 x 9mm Taurus Pistol S/N NAV18649, 1 x 9mm ruger Pistol S/N 30611588, 3 x magazines, 400 x American Eagle 9mm Luger rounds and 20 x Fiocchi 7.62 rounds).
This is the third seizure of this nature at the airport in Montego Bay in the past two weeks. The last one which consisted of two .45 Taurus magazine was also consigned to the same address.
The shipment was detained and handed over to the police. Investigations into the trafficking of arms and ammunition through the ports are ongoing in collaboration with the Customs Border Protection Unit (BPU) and the Police Trans National Anti Narcotic Unit.
The Customs Department has increased vigilance at the ports of entry in executing our border protection activities, especially in this festive season where criminals seize the opportunity to smuggle contraband through the ports. |
